Paisley Prints and Patterns

This young family was tight for storage in their quaint stone home. The former factory building was converted into residential dwellings long ago and lacked the amount of storage that we are used to in today’s homes. So we got creative and made use of the high ceilings by stacking cabinetry and adding storage where there was none. Because of the age of the original structure there were a lot of surprises as we removed existing closet walls, and we relied heavily on our construction team, Kerry Josey and Les Hartai. They had already done numerous other renovations in the area and had the experience we required in order to roll with the punches when issues came up throughout the renovation process.

In the kitchen we were also able to work the laundry into a custom alcove, made the dinette area part of the peninsula and added additional storage under the banquette seating. The high storage area made it necessary to use a library-style ladder, which we were thrilled to implement as this has been a design goal of ours for a very long time. This ladder is stored in the hallway and can be used in the kitchen, as well as in the bathroom, when required. We finished this customized kitchen space off with a custom, solid maple table made by my dear friend www.marceljordan.ca, that fits the space perfectly!

The family’s love of colour and whimsical details allowed us to have some fun with colour, texture and pattern in the bathroom. We fell in love with a beautiful wallpaper pattern from Anthropologie Home, and drew inspiration from there with the vanity paint colour and kept the tile simple and true to the age of the home. And of course we added storage in this space as well, with upper cabinets over the vanities, storage area over the tub shower and added a linen pantry from floor the ceiling beside the tub!

We definitely doubled the storage capacity of this lovely home for a lovely family and can’t be happier about how it all turned out! Our clients obviously feel the same way when they wrote, “We love every single thing about it!!!”
