With a list of custom upgrades, built-in appliances and show-stopping design details, we had our work cut out for us as we strived to provide the conveniences of a modern AND functional kitchen for our amazing clients. We incorporated all of the desired appliances onto one wall for ease of use and functionality. We broke up the monotony of what would have been a wall of cabinetry doors with some 3D applied panels for the fridge, an open shelf for display above the fridge/freezer and framed the oven cabinets with an accent colour. Our client had a unique and interesting request to create a concealed passage to the Butler’s Kitchen and Spice Pantry, which was no easy task. With quite a bit of research, we were able to find a pocket door hinge kit that would hold the weight of the larger doors and were deep enough so the doors would completely disappear into the slim line pockets when open.

For lighting, our team had some fun with the decorative fixtures above the island, which cast a beautiful pattern on the ceiling when lit. The island sports dado LED lighting in the toe kick, surrounding the perimeter.  But the real show stopper was the backlit onyx in the dinette bar area! We framed in a gap large enough to conceal the LED strip lighting, resulting in a clean and polished look.

Ultimately it was the details in the clever colour changes throughout the kitchen, the stainless-steel trim on the hood canopy and the custom 3D door panels that won this kitchen an NKBA Design Award in 2018 and it’s an accomplishment that we are so very proud of!
